BWN Committees

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee meets monthly and is primarily responsible for investigating avenues to get the BWN name recognized. The committee will make recommendations to the board as to where to place ads to get the most visibility, what marketing campaigns have the best chance of reaching potential members and how to do so in the most economical way possible. Once the board has approved their suggestions, the committee will be responsible for executing the task(s). This committee will also give recommendations to the board as to how best to communicate with its members to insure inclusion and increase membership tenure. Please contact the Director of Communications if you are interested.

Programs Committee

The Programs Committee meets monthly – sometimes more often from July – September when the programs are being set up and less frequently the other months when the meetings are set. The committee is responsible for suggesting topics and speakers to the board and, once approved, securing the speakers. The committee is responsible for follow up prior to the meeting, making sure the speaker’s needs are met, coordinating the speaker gift, and sending a thank you note after the presentation. The Programs Committee Chair oversees the Special Events Committee. Please contact the Director of Programs if you are interested in assisting this committee.

Special Events Committee

The Special Events Committee meets “as needed” leading up to the event and is responsible for planning, budgeting, arranging and managing the annual Special Event, usually held in May. This committee is also responsible for selecting the Woman of Distinction. The Special Event’s main purposes are to present the Woman of Distinction award, the scholarship(s) and raise money.  Please contact the Director of Programs or the Special Events Committee Chair if you are interested in assisting this committee.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is primarily responsible for recruiting and retaining members. This is accomplished by following up with guests, prospects and non-renewing members as well as communicating with current members. This committee is responsible for the Membership Table at all meetings and making guests and new members feel welcome. This committee makes recommendations to the board as to the membership levels, benefits and cost. This committee is also responsible for securing door prizes for every meeting. The Membership Committee Chair oversees the Scholarship Committee. Please contact the Director of Membership if you are interested in assisting this committee.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee is responsible for soliciting for scholarship applications, reviewing the applications and choosing the scholarship recipients. The committee is also responsible for fund raising for the scholarship fund. Funds for the scholarships are currently being raised through the 50/50 drawing at each meeting, the Penny Harvest campaign, and proceeds from sponsorships. The committee should plan to host at least one event per year to enhance these funds. The committee should work closely with the Special Events Committee, as this is the event where the scholarships are awarded. Typically, we have sponsors for this event and some sponsorship dollars may be earmarked for the scholarship fund. {Please contact the Director of Membership or the Scholarship Committee Chair if you are interested in participating.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for assisting the Treasurer with assembling the budget, and reviewing and providing recommendations for any financial matters that arise throughout the year. The budget is prepared in July, so meetings will be on an “as needed” basis at budget time as well as throughout the year. The Treasurer oversees the Finance Committee. Please contact the Treasurer if you are interested in participating.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is responsible for submitting BWN members as nominees for various community awards as well as for the BWN board. This committee is primarily active from January through May, when most nominations occur. The President-Elect oversees the Nominating Committee. Please contact the President-Elect if you are interested in serving on this committee.
