BWN: Business Women's Network of Howard County

Committees

MarCom Committee
The Marketing Committee is primarily responsible for investigating avenues to get the BWN name recognized. The committee will make recommendations to the board as to where to place ads to get the most visibility, what marketing campaigns have the best chance of reaching potential members and how to do so in the most economical way possible. Once the board has approved their suggestions, the committee will be responsible for executing the task(s). This committee will also give recommendations to the board as to how best to communicate with its members to insure inclusion and increase membership tenure.

If you are a marketing guru, or would like to learn more about marketing and public relations, this committee is your opportunity to participate and to learn while doing. Please contact the Director of Communications to get the date and location of the next meeting.

Programs Committee
The Programs Committee meets monthly – sometimes more often from July – September when the programs are being set up and less frequently the other months when meetings are set. The committee is responsible for suggesting topics and speakers to the board and, once approved, securing the speakers. The committee is responsible for follow up prior to the meeting, making sure the speaker’s needs are met, coordinating the speaker gift, and sending a thank you note after the presentation. Please contact the Director of Programs if you are interested in assisting this committee.

Special Events Committee
The Special Events Committee meets “as needed” leading up to the event and is responsible for planning, budgeting, arranging and managing the Brown Bag Business Lunch series and the annual Women of Distinction celebration. There are typically four Brown Bag Business Lunches during the program year, and the Women of Distinction celebration is usually held in May. This committee is also responsible for selecting the Women of Distinction. The Special Events Committee’s main purposes are to present the Women of Distinction award, enhance the program year with topics of interest at the Business Lunch series, award the scholarship(s) at WOD, and raise money. Please contact the Director of Special Events if you are interested in assisting this committee.

Membership
The Membership Committee is primary responsible for recruiting and retaining members. This is accomplished by following up with guests, prospects, and non-renewing members, as well as, communicating with current members and actively identifying and recruiting potential new members within the community. This committee is responsible for the Membership table and the tabletop sponsor signs at all meetings. They, also, help the Hospitality Committee make all guests and new members feel welcome. This committee makes recommendations to the board as to the membership levels, benefits and cost. Please contact the Director of Membership if you are interested in assisting this committee.

Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee is responsible for soliciting scholarship applications, reviewing the applications and choosing the scholarship recipients. The committee is also responsible for the fund raising for the scholarship fund. Funds for the scholarships are currently being raised through the 50/50 drawing at each meeting, the Penny Harvest campaign, and proceeds from sponsorships. The committee hosts at least one event per year to enhance these funds. The committee should work closely with the Special Events Committee, as this is the event where scholarships are awarded. Typically, we have sponsors for this event and some sponsorship dollars may be earmarked for the scholarship fund. Please contact the Director of Scholarships if you are interested in participating.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for assisting the Treasurer with assembling and reviewing the budget and providing recommendations for the financial matters that arise throughout the year. The budget is prepared in July, so the Finance Committee meetings will be on an “as needed” basis at budget time as well as throughout the year. The Treasurer oversees the Finance Committee. Please contact the Treasurer if you are interested in participating.
